Leon Panetta co-founded The Panetta Institute for Public Policy with his wife Sylvia in 1997 upon completion of his service as White House chief of staff in the Bill Clinton administration. He co-directed it with her until 2009, when he left to serve as CIA director and then secretary of defense under President Obama. He returned to the Institute as chairman in 2013.
The Zbigniew Brzezinski Initiative’s Inaugural Annual Lecture is co-sponsored by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), Foreign Policy Institute (FPI), and SAIS Dean’s Speaker Series.
The Dean’s Speaker Series is the highest-profile speaker series at Johns Hopkins SAIS. The series will host a diverse array of prominent international affairs practitioners and business leaders for insightful perspectives and thought-provoking discussions on international relations, leadership and other relevant topics that impact our focus areas.
